Condos very near Sanibel Island are technically in South Fort Myers, but are so near the island, they’re usually referred to in association with it. Sanibel Island’s beautiful beaches are, after all, one of the best reasons to own a condo near Sanibel. Until recently, the prices for a condo near the island would have been less than those for a condo on Sanibel. But with the advent of new luxury properties just off the island, that isn’t necessarily the case anymore. Condos near Sanibel can be far more luxurious than those on the islands.
Newer condominium communities near Sanibel include the twin towers of Mastique, with their unparalled amenities, beautiful pool area, and views over the nearby bay and Gulf; Sanibel View, a lovely four-story complex built around a lake, with clay tennis courts, its own “beach,” and a pool; various condos adjacent to Sanibel Harbour Resort, which tempts condo owners over for spa treatments, waterfront dining, and drinks by the pool. Another new high-rise project is just about to break ground near Sanibel and has been selling pre-construction condominium residences.
High-rise condos near Sanibel have terrific views and are new enough they incorporate all new hurricane codes in their construction. Many owners purchased these condos feeling safer during hurricane season than they did with property on the lower-lying beaches. Vacation rentals will be common in this area, although not as plentiful as on the islands.
Near-Sanibel condos offer buyers plenty of nearby services and goods, including groceries, fine dining, entertainment, and shopping. Fort Myers bike paths offer an alternative to taking a car out and about. Bunche Beach, which used to be rough and filled with trash, has been cleaned up by the County, and revitalized into one of the more beautiful beaches in the area. With its sparkling white sand, shallow warm water, and steady breezes, Bunche Beach is popular with paddlers, wind-surfers and fishermen. It’s actually possible to trailer a windsurfer or a kayak behind your bicycle for the short ride to this beach, from either Mastique or Sanibel View.
Condominiums near Sanibel Harbour Resort have the best views in the county, facing west over San Carlos Bay for sunset. This area has a private entrance, adjacent to the Sanibel Causeway, and a large, new drydock facility with dockominiums. Boating is a way of life for many condo owners here.
All these near-Sanibel condos have lovely pools, a must-have in Florida, particularly during the summer . . . and the winter! Who can’t imagine having their own luxury condominium, minutes from tropical Sanibel Island, yet also near an international airport?
More and more condo buyers are tele-commuting, so that they can spend more time in their near-Sanibel condos. Who can blame them? |
